Atlanta's Beginnings and the Battle of Utoy Creek

At the site of the Battle of Utoy Creek, Col. Perry Bennett will describe warfare in southwest Atlanta during the 1860s. Following this 2.5 hour tour, participants will caravan in their own vehicles to Historic Utoy Cemetery where Terry White, a local historian and descendant of Utoy Church pioneer citizen William W. White and “Squire” Joseph Willis Jr., will lead a one hour tour of the cemetery.

Utoy Cemetery Association

The mission of the Utoy Cemetery Association, Inc. is to maintain and promote Atlanta’s Historic Utoy Cemetery, now on the Georgia Registry of Historic Places (soon to be on the National Registry), as an educational, historic, and cultural resource for the City of Atlanta and surrounding community. Toward this end, we work closely with local government and civic/community groups and organizations as we pursue our common and/or complementary interests.
